The victim of the alleged assault remains in hospital

A man who was seriously injured in an alleged assault in Wythenshawe yesterday (July 24) is now in a stable condition, police have said.
A man in his 40s was found at Brownley Court Road, off Hollyhedge Road in Benchill, at around 10:30am yesterday.
He had suffered an injury to his head and was taken to hospital in a ‘life-threatening condition.’

The Manchester Evening News understands it is currently believed that two men bumped into each other in the street, before one ‘pushed’ the other, causing him to fall and hit his head on the pavement.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed that a 46-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm.

In an update issued this afternoon (Saturday, July 25), a force spokesperson said the victim was now in a stable condition in hospital, and that enquiries were continuing.
Locals yesterday spoke of their shock at what happened.
“It is awful” one woman, who did not want to be named, said. She said the area was being plagued by a number of ‘undesirable people’ and ‘dodgy characters’ adding: “It’s really bad.”
A neighbour said: “You just wouldn’t expect something like that, especially at the time. It’s quiet around here.”
Another man said: “I came out and saw all the tape. I wasn’t surprised, this is Benchill. It’s rough. It’s so bad though. Terrible. You just don’t want to see it.”
