BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Birmingham Fire and Rescue is urging concertgoers to start preparing now as thousands of fans head to Protective Stadium Tuesday, July 28 and Wednesday, July 29 for Chris Brown and Usher, with Tuesday being a First Alert Weather Day for dangerous heat levels.

Lt. Catina Williams said people should not wait until they arrive at the venue to think about the heat.
“Personally I think they should have already started to prepare,” Williams said. “They should’ve started hydrating days before.”
Williams said crowds, long lines and a lot of walking can quickly turn a concert into a medical emergency. She said dehydration and heat exhaustion can happen even after the sun goes down.
She urged fans to dress for the conditions and pay attention to what they drink.
“Wear light clothing, light colored, lightweight clothing: those hats, sun visors, those help a whole lot,” Williams said. “Please make sure to keep down on the caffeine and the alcohol because those two things will dehydrate you.”

Williams said the department has spent weeks preparing for the two-night event and will place first responders throughout the stadium.
“We will have plenty of our EMS people out there, but we’ve had situations before where it’s been hot and we have a lot of people passing out,” Williams said. “So, we don’t want that to happen. We want you to stay safe and have a good time. Having a good time means not passing out.”
Birmingham Fire and Rescue urged fans to drink water ahead of time, wear comfortable shoes and seek help immediately if they feel dizzy, weak or overheated.
