A man was sprayed with an “unknown liquid” in an attack in Bristol.
Emergency services were called to Church Road in Bishopsworth around 2.30pm.
The substance “caused irritation” and the victim was taken to hospital by the ambulance service for treatment.
He did not suffer life-threatening or life-changing injuries and was discharged from hospital later the same day.
A man in his 40s was arrested and has since been released on bail as enquiries continue.
At the time of the attack, a witness said Queens Road and Church Road was “closed off by police”.
A police cordon was in place outside the shops on Church Road but has since been removed.
A statement from Avon and Somerset Police said: “Officers were alerted to a man having been assaulted in Church Road, Bishopsworth just before 2.30pm on Wednesday 22 July, by the ambulance service.
“A man was taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment after being sprayed with an unknown liquid, causing irritation. He was discharged later that day with no life-threatening or life-changing injuries.
“A man in his 40s was arrested later that afternoon and has since been released on police bail while enquiries continue.
“As part of the police investigation, a cordon was in place outside the rank of shops on Church Road, but this has since been removed.
