Lorraine Kelly went incognito at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games as she donned one of the colourful volunteer tops on a visit to one of the venues yesterday morning. The ITV presenter was there to champion the hundreds of volunteers helping to run the cut-price games that the Scottish city only had 18 months to prepare for after the Australian state of Victoria pulled out as the host city.
Asked why she was there as she stopped to pose for selfies with spectators while walking through the Scottish Event Campus, Lorraine told the Daily Express: “I am supporting the amazing volunteers, who I think are the beating heart of these games. We’re trying today to give a bit more of a headline to train and support the volunteers.”
Speaking about the Games, which the King officially opened on Thursday night after a spectacular Opening Ceremony, she said: “The atmosphere is amazing and it is lovely to be part of this wonderful, wonderful occasion. It’s just wonderful.”
Lorraine said she would be heading to watch the bowls as it was “the place to be”, with the competition hotting up as three Gold medals are up for grabs this morning.
”That’s where everybody wants to be, because when I’ve been directing people, they’ve just been asking me where the bowls are,” she said.
The Men’s Singles, Women’s Pairs and Para Mixed Pairs B2-B3 will reach its conclusion on Tuesday, with several British Isles teams competing for a spot on the podium.
The bowls is one of four sports held at the SEC, as they’re joined by Judo, Boxing and Basketball and Wheelchair Basketball. The nearby Hydro is hosting the Netball, and the Weightlifting and Paraweightlifting is at the Armadillo.
The athletics is being held at the EDF Scotstoun Stadium, the Swimming and Paraswimming at Tollcross International Swimming Centre and the Glasgow International Arena is hosting the Cycling and Paracycling.
