Leeds United are set to sign James Trafford from Manchester City, and it leads to a goalkeeper overhaul that allows Lucas Perri to leave.
When the season ended, it felt like a foregone conclusion that United would be reviewing the goalkeeper position.
Karl Darlow’s exit meant it was definite we would look to a new ‘keeper, as Lucas Perri’s position in the squad looked very weak.
Lucas Perri set for Torino on loan after Leeds United’s James Trafford breakthrough
The £15.6million Brazilian was unlikely to feel great about Leeds bringing in an ambitious new goalkeeper signing this summer. So, James Trafford’s pending arrival at Elland Road means the writing is on the wall for Perri.
However, it was already broadly agreed that Perri would leave Leeds this summer for Torino. The Trafford pursuit was the only real obstacle in the way for United to traverse in sanctioning Perri’s exit.
Now, as Leeds look to wrap up a £40million deal for Trafford, it paves the way for Leeds’ 2025 signing to leave. Gianluca Di Marzio reports that a deal between Leeds and the Serie A side is due to be sealed imminently.
Importantly, Di Marzio reports that Torino are going to sign Perri on loan with an option to buy. The final details are being formalised currently.

With Trafford joining, that obviously paves the way for Perri to leave the club on this initial loan. Hopefully this move works out because I do think there’s a good goalkeeper in there, his confidence was shot after struggling to settle in at Leeds.
Some of the saves he pulled off, particularly in the FA Cup, were tremendous. You don’t have that ability without being at least decent.
Anyway, him leaving with Trafford joining can’t be the end of it. We’re still down a ‘keeper from last season, and therefore need another signing.
A backup is needed to provide support for Trafford. The key issue there is signing someone good enough to play when needed, that is also happy being one of the most nailed-on No2s in the league.
