A plan has been submitted to transform a Drumchapel pavilion into a community hub as part of a £15m scheme.

A planning application has been submitted to Glasgow City Council to use the vacant Drumchapel Park Pavilion into a a cycling workshop, multi-purpose community space and community cafe.

The bid would be part of the Drumchapel Town Centre Regeneration, for which the area received £15million from the UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund.

Documents read: “The revised project focuses on adapting Garscadden House for use as a community hub under the working title, Drumchapel Town Hall, assembling housing sites in Hecla Square and improving the public realm and road infrastructure.

“The former bowling pavilion in Drumchapel Park was identified as a suitable location for the Active Travel Hub.”

The new building would allow people of all ages to learn to ride bicycles and learn about maintenance.

Papers added: “Furthermore, there are a number of capital projects which may impact upon the delivery programme of this project, such as Antonine Court’s demolition of their current premises and construction of new premises on Dunkenny Road and Wheatley Homes Glasgow’s construction of 70 residential units on Abbosthall Avenue.”

The use of the old bowling greens around the building will be subject to a further planning application and a consultation with Sports Scotland and Glasgow Life.

Glasgow City Council officials are reviewing the application and a decision is expected by Friday, July 11.
