The Masked Singer UK has announced Alan Carr is joining the show – but as part of a major new twist. The comedian will bring his sleuthing skills to the ITV series, though interestingly not on the main panel.

Instead, he is set to bring in his own rival team called the ‘Wild Cards’ as they try to work out the identities of the celebrities behind the masks.

The main team of Davina McCall, Mo Gilligan, Maya Jama and Jonathan Ross will now be called the ‘Legends’ as part of the twist, as the two factions go head-to-head in an attempt to be named best detectives for the new season, which begins in 2027.

“I can’t wait to play detective – so excited to be shouting ‘take it off’ in the actual studio rather than on my settee at home,” Alan said. “A dream come true.”

“We are thrilled to welcome Alan Carr to The Masked Singer,” ITV’s Katie Rawcliffe added. “His wit and energy are the perfect addition to our new ‘rival panel’ and we can’t wait for viewers to see the sparks fly.”

The reveal comes after the show teased a “huge reveal” to come this week, with some speculating that a new panellist could be joining such as Alan, West End star Mazz Murray, or McFly’s Danny Jones and Tom Fletcher.

Alan has history on The Masked Singer UK, appearing as a guest panellist in the past.

The last season of the show wrapped up earlier this year, with Sugababes star Keisha Buchanan winning the show under the guise of Moth.

“I have been a fan of the show for many years,” she said after her win. “I absolutely loved it. I really started to embrace Moth! I haven’t done many things by myself, so this was so necessary to bring me out of my shell.”

Meanwhile, Alan has had quite the stellar year, having won the inaugural season of The Celebrity Traitors last autumn despite many being convinced he was the worst Traitor throughout the season.

The Masked Singer UK returns on ITV in 2027.
