Frankie Laine’s I Believe set the benchmark back in 1953. Now, 26,755 days later, the Official Singles Chart finally has a new all-time champion.
Rein Me In first entered the chart in June 2025, beginning a remarkable journey that would take almost eight months to reach Number 1, finally conquering the summit on February 20 this year.
Three weeks later, Harry Styles briefly halted its reign as American Girls swept to the top on March 13. Briefly being the operative word: just seven days later, Rein Me In was Number 1 once again.
Since then, only Olivia Rodrigo’s drop dead and Ariana Grande’s hate that i made you love me have managed to wrestle the crown away. Each time Rein Me In fell, it came roaring back. Now, there is nobody left to overtake.
In recent weeks, Sam and Olivia have torn through the history books one record at a time. A 16th week at Number 1 saw Rein Me In surpass Wet Wet Wet’s Love Is All Around to become the longest-running chart-topper by a British act, before it moved beyond Bryan Adams’ 16-week 1991 reign with (Everything I Do) I Do It For You.
Then came Frankie Laine. After drawing level with I Believe’s seemingly untouchable 18-week run, Rein Me In has gone one better.
73 years after the record was set, it finally belongs to Sam Fender and Olivia Dean.
To mark the historic achievement, the Official Charts Company presented Sam with his very own Official Chart Record Breaker Award.

Accepting his Official Chart Record Breaker Award, Sam Fender exclusively tells Official Charts:
