The first-ever Animal Rescue Festival Wirral will take place this weekend at Claremont Farm with plenty of fun-filled activities for all ages.

There will be live entertainment, a wellness tent, a food court, and a pop-up bar at the event on Saturday, 1 August, between 10am and 5pm) and on Sunday, 2 August, between 10am and 4pm.

There’s plenty to delight the kids with fair rides, magicians, face-painting, and Punch and Judy at the festival which has been organised by Celandine Wood Animal Rescue and Willowfields Sanctuary & Rescue.

One of the highlights will be a dog show, which starts at 11am each day. Categories include waggiest tail, best trick, prettiest pooch, and best biscuit catcher, offering plenty of opportunities for four-legged friends to steal the spotlight.

The wellness programme offers something for everyone. On Saturday, visitors can take part in yoga sessions at 11am, 12.30pm, and 2pm, followed by a relaxing sound bath at 3.30pm. There are bookable sessions in reflexology, reiki, facials, breathwork and meditation, and massage treatments available throughout the weekend.

Celandine Wood Animal Rescue is run by Wirral-based vet Sharon Williams and helps abandoned and abused dogs, cats and other animals. Last year, it expanded with the opening of kennels in Wrexham.

Willowfields is a safe haven dedicated to providing lifelong care for farm animals rescued from the meat, dairy and egg industries. Based in Hoylake, it was formerly known as Whitegate and is now under new ownership.

Dr Williams said, “We’re aiming to bring the community together by creating an event involving multiple rescue organisations, animal businesses and supporters. The Animal Rescue Festival Wirral promises a weekend packed with entertainment, wellbeing and community spirit.

“We hope everyone will come along, have a fantastic day and support a really worthwhile cause. It’s a constant challenge to meet the costs of running our kennels and Willowfields’ sanctuary.”
