Spain is still one of the most popular holiday destinations for British tourists, with around 15 million UK visitors heading to the country each year. When packing for a holiday in the sunshine, most travellers remember the essentials, money, travel insurance, sun cream and their swimwear.
But according to language experts, one crucial preparation step that many overlook is learning key Spanish emergency phrases. While it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of a holiday, being able to communicate in an emergency could make all the difference, according to experts from online Spanish classes platform Preply.
“Many people focus on the fun aspects of their trip, and rightly so. But taking the time to learn a few essential phrases could be invaluable if you ever find yourself in a difficult situation,” a Preply spokesperson explained.
To help Brits stay safe and prepared abroad, the language experts have shared the top Spanish phrases every traveller should know before jetting off.

Being able to communicate that you need medical help is just as important as purchasing travel insurance for your safety and well-being.

In Spanish, the phrase is pronounced ‘Neh-the-see-toh oon doc-TOR’. An easy way to remember this is by recognising the similarity between ‘necesito’ and ‘necessary’, as well as ‘doctor’ and ‘doctor’.
