Birmingham City are interested in a move for Leeds United attacker Joe Gelhardt, as per BBC reporter Mike White on X.

Birmingham City are keen on landing an ambitious deal for the forward this summer as they prepare for the start of the new Championship season. BCFC will be aiming to get into the play-offs under the guidance of head coach Chris Davies.

Gelhardt, 24, has spent the past year-and-a-half on loan at Hull City from Leeds United and was a key player for the Tigers. He fired 15 league goals for the East Yorkshire outfit in the last campaign to help them gain a surprise promotion to the Premier League.

In this latest update regarding his situation, BBC Humberside Sport journalist White has claimed on X that the Blues want to lure him to the Midlands from Elland Road in this transfer window. However, they face competition from ‘several’ other teams at this moment in time.

It remains to be seen at this stage whether Hull City want to snap him up on a permanent basis before the end of the transfer window. Gelhardt is under contract with his current club until June 2027 meaning he has entered the final 12 months.

Birmingham City eye ambitious Joe Gelhardt transfer from Leeds United

Birmingham City could see Gelhardt as someone to inject more quality into their attacking department. If BCFC managed to secure his signature, it would be a big statement of intent.

The ex-England youth international is a proven performer at second tier level. He has boosted his reputation at Hull City and would give the Blues more competition and depth at the top end of the pitch.

Gelhardt looks set to leave Leeds United over the coming weeks after being left out of their pre-season tour. The Whites will want to get as much money for his services as possible.

As well as the Tigers, he has also been shipped out to Sunderland by the West Yorkshire club. The former Wigan Athletic will want to join a club that can offer him regular game time.

The Verdict: Joe Gelhardt would be ideal addition for Birmingham City this summer

Birmingham City will be able to provide Gelhardt with a platform to show what he can do again. He can play down the middle or on either flank so would be a solid option for BCFC.

The Blues’ chances of getting him depend on finances though and Leeds United won’t want him to depart on the cheap. In addition, if Hull City come calling again, his head may be turned as he now has a strong affiliation with the top flight new boys.
