LOVE ALIVE takes a drop in grade after a fairly encouraging third at Thirsk 12 days ago, which she posted when set plenty to do on her first start for John Butler. She’s taken to build on that, as she’s operating 7 lbs below her last winning mark when successful at Wolverhampton in February, though other in-form sorts are fancied to feature here. That includes Cape Toronada, who was a course-and-distance winner in June, while maiden Havana Jag has been placed on her last two starts.
Going through a good spell at present for Roger Teal, ROVINIA appeals as the most solid option after a couple of seconds in this grade at Lingfield on her last two starts. River Wharfe ran better than for a while at Windsor on his most recent outing, and is considered the main threat on his return to classified company, especially as he’s back at a track where he has a good record. Rainbow Sign can fill the places if bouncing back from a below-par effort at Lingfield.
Eve Johnson Houghton’s SILCA BAY arrives in top form, having been successful in two of his last three starts. That includes a surge from last to first at Newmarket on his latest outing, and he is taken to win again in his current mood. Elsewhere, Tex is feared most with the step back up in trip promising to suit, having caught the eye in a big field over six furlongs at Goodwood last week, ahead of June’s course-and-distance winner Play Me, who can bounce back from a lesser effort at Epsom.
BUCKLAND BELLE has the most solid claims in this field, following a success at Leicester two weeks ago when winning with something in hand, and Ollie Sangster’s filly should be tough to beat again, given that she enters from a 6 lb higher mark over this longer trip. Port Darwin has had excuses of late, being undone by a lack of pace at Hamilton on his latest start, and can be seen to better effect here, with veteran Annexation completing the dangers.
John Gallagher’s three-time course winner HAVANA MOJITO has finished runner-up on his last four starts, bumping into an in-form rival at Doncaster on his latest outing. He is taken to open his account for the year in this contest for horses that are still winless in 2026. Viking Glory could be the main danger having been finding his feet for James Owen, with The Organiser – a winner over six furlongs here last year – also considered.
STARSONG has dipped below her last winning mark, and suggested she may be ready to capitalise when finding only one too good on her latest outing at Pontefract ten days ago. Mick Appleby’s mare shades preference over four-time course-and-distance winner Secret Handsheikh – who was most recently successful at Chepstow in June – and the front-running Faustus, who is down to a handy mark himself and has the blinkers back on.
