Liverpool could follow up the signing of Jeremie Frimpong by splashing £170million on three exciting players ahead of next season. The Reds are close to confirming their first arrival of the summer window, with Frimpong expected to put pen to paper in the coming days. He will replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is set to join Real Madrid ahead of the upcoming Club World Cup.
Frimpong was quickly identified as Arne Slot‘s preferred target and negotiations are believed to have gone smoothly. Liverpool have agreed to pay his £30m release clause and a five-year contract has been swiftly drawn up behind the scenes. The defender is expected to undergo a medical in England later this week.
Liverpool will be delighted when Frimpong’s arrival is officially confirmed, having moved quickly and decisively to secure his signature. More signings could follow as the Reds look to boost their ranks ahead of next season’s Premier League title defence.
One of the other players linked with a move to Anfield is Milos Kerkez, who has excelled at Bournemouth this season. There has been plenty of speculation over the futures of Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas, suggesting Liverpool could target a left-back.
Kerkez is thought to be valued at £45m by the Cherries, while CaughtOffside are reporting that discussions have already taken place. This would certainly be affordable for Liverpool, especially if they decide to sell one of their existing left-sided options.
Liverpool could also be tempted to move for Florian Wirtz, who is thought to be interesting several top clubs. He already knows Frimpong well, having spent the last few seasons alongside each other at Bayer Leverkusen.
Over the last few weeks, the likes of Bayern Munich and Manchester City have been named as potential rivals for Wirtz’s signature. It means Liverpool will need to act quickly to beat the competition and match his reported asking price of £100m.
Meanwhile, a third defender could yet arrive in the form of Ajax starlet Jorrel Hato. Interestingly, the 19-year-old was spotted at Anfield earlier this season to watch Liverpool beat Ipswich Town.
Hato has already received high praise from former Reds captain Jordan Henderson, who waxed lyrical about him last year. It remains to be seen if he would be keen on joining Liverpool, where he would be managed by a fellow Dutchman.
Ajax would reportedly be willing to consider bids in the region of £25m, a figure that could repay itself several times over if Hato enjoys a long and successful career on Merseyside.
Only time will tell if Liverpool will chase deals for all three players, which would give them a good chance of securing back-to-back Premier League titles.
