Golden sand, brilliant sunshine and blue waves – you really can’t beat a trip to the beach on a sunny day. When the conditions are just right it feels like you’re on holiday but without the stress of flying somewhere.
From the tiny coves in North Wales to the iconic resort of Blackpool, there’s no shortage of beaches within easy reach of Greater Manchester. But one seaside spot along the Sefton coast has become known for its unique bar, which sits right on the sand.
Crosby Beach boasts a gorgeous stretch of golden sand, backed with grass-topped sand dunes and dotted with the famous cast-iron statues, created by artist Antony Gormley.
The beach offers views across to the Wirral and North Wales, and thanks to its proximity to the Port of Liverpool, visitors can watch huge container ships and cruise ships pass by.

In recent years visitors have descended upon the beach during the spring and summer to visit The Bus Yard beach bar, located right by the promenade next to Marine Lake.
The bar itself is located within a converted bus, while the surrounding complex features street-food sellers in former shipping container units, serving up dishes like Gyros, burgers and loaded fries all using locally sourced ingredients; and there’s a large outdoor seating area.
The top deck of the bus has been transformed into a seating area where you can sip on cocktails and look out to sea. It’s a view that only gets better as the day goes on as Crosby Beach has some of the best sunsets in the country.

The bus yard hosts regular live music events which add to the holiday atmosphere. One regular performer, Atmos Musik, recently shared a video of a DJ set on TikTok from The Bus Yard as people watched the sunset from the beach. One user, L’MLOU, commented “This Liverpool? I thought it was Malibu!!! (and I’m from the NW)”
One visitor, Simon Ashman, wrote on Google: “Brilliant bar set on the front of Crosby Beach where the metal statues are set in the sand. Just the thing after a nice walk or a day out on the beach. Great music, great atmosphere, good food available as well, you can sit and just watch the ships go by, or go with friends and have a great time…”
Another, Katie A, said: “Lovely pit stop whilst on a walk, great atmosphere with some music playing, dogs are allowed also, staff came around and offered my dog a little biscuit.
“Food was also lovely! We ordered the salt n pepper chicken & chips! I recommend heading down if it’s a nice sunny day!”

The Bus Yard originally started as a pop-up with a three-year agreement with Sefton Council in 2022. It was up for renewal this year and now the council have granted it a nine-year lease. It’s open on a seasonal basis, trading from April 1 until September 30.
There are several parking options at Crosby, including Sefton MBC Pay & Display Car park (L28 8TA) and Crosby Leisure Centre Car Park (L23 6SX).
It’s important to note that Crosby Beach is a non-bathing beach with areas of soft sand and mud and a risk of changing tides. Visitors should stay within 50 metres of the promenade at all tides and not attempt to walk out to the furthest statues.
