It was just like he planned, right?
Scottie Scheffler, after nearly blowing a five-shot lead at Quail Hollow Club on Sunday afternoon in North Carolina, still rallied to pick up a commanding win at the second major championship of the year. Scheffler got to 11-under for the week and ended up taking home a five-shot win over the field.
That earned Scheffler his first ever PGA Championship win and the iconic Wanamaker Trophy. It marks his third career major championship win, and his first outside of Augusta National. Scheffler will also take home a $3.42 million check — which is part of a tournament record $19 million purse this week.
Scheffler surged ahead to a three-shot lead with his 6-under 65 on Saturday, though he made three bogeys on his front nine and saw a five-shot lead disappear completely while Jon Rahm surged ahead of him. Rahm, however, lost all of the momentum he had built up. He started missing putts and ended up finishing 5-over in his final three holes to drop well back while Scheffler turned it on behind him. Scheffler made back-to-back birdies on Nos. 14 and 15 to reclaim his massive lead as if nothing had happened.
From there, Scheffler simply cruised to the finish to grab his win. The win marked the 15th career PGA Tour victory for the top-ranked golfer in the world, and his second this month alone.
Bryson DeChambeau, Harris English and Davis Riley finished in a tie for second at 6-under on the week. Taylor Pendrith, J.T. Poston and Jhonattan Vegas — who held the lead at the midway point — finished in a tie for fifth.

The knock on Scottie Scheffler — and admittedly it’s more of a tap — is that he hasn’t won a major outside of the friendly confines of Augusta National. Twenty-one major appearances, two victories, both at the Masters.
But Scheffler has built up a three-shot lead over the field entering Sunday at Quail Hollow. He’s ready to fix that.

With his final-round 70, Scheffler rolled to a massive five-shot win and is taking home the Wanamaker Trophy.

With his six-shot lead in hand, Scottie Scheffler is set to become the first player since Seve Ballesteros in ’83 to win his first three majors by at least three strokes.
J.T. Poston bogeyed up ahead, which pushed Scottie Scheffler’s lead to SIX now with just two holes to go.
Jon Rahm just made a double at the 18th, too. He finished 5-over in his final three holes in what was a brutal ending for the man who held a share of the lead earlier in the day.
Jon Rahm backed his bogey up with a double after he landed his tee shot in the water at the par-3 17th. Rahm is out of it now, and Scheffler’s lead is back to five.

Jon Rahm is just about done now. He bogeyed the 16th after missing yet another putt, which pushed him back to 8-under for the week.

Jon Rahm missed another good look at the 15th, and had to settle with par. He’s leaving plenty of chances out there, and still trails Scheffler by a stroke.
If he’s going to make a move, it’s got to be soon.
Jon Rahm had a shot to tie Scheffler in the lead again at the 14th, but he pushed his birdie putt right of the cup badly.
He’s still at 9-under with four holes to go.
Jon Rahm had this putt for birdie at the 13th, but it was just barely off the mark. He’s still one back.
Well, that didn’t take long. Scottie Scheffler just birdied the 10th after landing in the bunker, and he’s alone in the lead once again.
