Silent Hill 2 Patch Finally Fixes Remake on PS5 Pro - Or Does It? 1

Update [Fri 7th Aug 2026, 6:15pm]:

Konami has now acknowledged the newly introduced issues in Silent Hill 2 remake’s newest patch, which was supposed to fix the game on the PS5 Pro.

While the introduction of PSSR2 has solved some of the original release’s upscaling issues at 60fps, a new bug has introduced ugly “crushed blacks” in Performance Mode.

Writing on X (or Twitter), the Japanese publisher says it’s “looking into potential solutions”. It adds it’ll share more information soon.

Original Story: Silent Hill 2 is an awesome game, but its PS5 Pro implementation was noted as an early lowpoint for Sony’s pricey platform.

The company’s since massively improved its proprietary upscaler PSSR, and the supercharged system is regularly turning in outstanding results as a consequence.

And now a new 6GB patch for the Bloober Team developed remake has attempted to clean up the issues.

The good news? Image quality is massively improved across the board, with PlayStation’s updated upscaler working exactly as architect Mark Cerny intended.

The bad news? Various reports on forums like ResetEra claim the shadows have been broken in Performance Mode, resulting in crushed blacks and ugly dark areas.

Looking at the screenshots, these issues aren’t present when playing in Quality Mode, but obviously that limits the frame rate to 30fps, which isn’t ideal.

I’m not entirely sure how a bug like this makes it through, as Konami has taken its sweet time working on this, and it’s only had to optimise for one platform here.

Hopefully a fix in the works to finally whip this excellent remake into shape.
