So there I was, just casually browsing Metacritic today to see what the latest rankings are for the “Best Games This Year”, and it turns out there’s a new champion – a little game called Sektori that I’d never heard of before.
Imagine my surprise when I discovered that Sektori is already available for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, and it was actually released back at the end of the last year. The reason it’s one of the “Best Games This Year” is because it just recently released for Nintendo Switch 2, and it has an average review score of 94 (!) for that platform.
What’s even more intriguing is that Sektori is getting tons of comparisons to the classic Xbox game Geometry Wars. Our sister site, Nintendo Life, even claims that it surpasses the peak that was Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2.
“For the longest time, I was convinced that Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 was the peak of the twin-stick arcade genre. It took what the original XBLA game did so well and perfected the formula, delivering an experience that was easy to grasp yet difficult to master.
Imagine my surprise, then, to discover that not only does Sektori effortlessly emulate the feel of GW2, but it also manages to surpass it in pretty much every way. Having launched on other platforms at the tail end of 2025, this, my friends, is the new benchmark for twin-stick arcade games, and my favourite Switch 2 release of 2026 so far.
Looking over on Steam, Sektori doesn’t have that many reviews (less than 1,000), but the rating is sitting at “Overwhelmingly Positive”. The Xbox Store doesn’t even have enough reviews to show a rating, but every single person who has commented on it (at least based on the US version of the store) has given it five stars out of five.
