Only Murders in the Building spoilers follow.
Only Murders in the Building will be taking a huge leap as the story moves overseas for its sixth instalment. While each season has boasted an updated star-studded cast, the murders have always taken place in New York’s iconic Arconia building where the three main characters reside.
At the end of season 5, the latest victim was revealed to be the trio’s podcast hero Cinda Canning, who had been living in the UK for a few months. When the popular mystery series returns to our screens, Mabel, Charles and Oliver will be heading to London to try to solve her death.

The international shake-up came as a huge surprise to fans, given that the trio’s plan to only solve murders in their building was established from the very beginning.
However, showrunner John Hoffman has explained his desire to keep the series “fresh”, resulting in the new setting.
“Each season, there has always been that drive in me to say, ‘No, we’ve done that.’ ‘No, that’s not fresh,’ or, ‘That thing doesn’t subvert,'” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “All of that comes up, so I just keep pushing that way just naturally as a writer and director however I can.”
“There’s no way around a certain understanding of needing to freshen up a show. I mean, how many murders can be in one building?” Hoffman reasoned, adding that it “felt like the right time”.
“I love the idea of however we can broaden the reach of the show and put the trio in new situations, new landscapes for a moment.”

Despite the big move, the showrunner remains adamant that it’s still a “New York show”.
“The spirit of the show and the center of it and the emotional hook and how it feels, surprisingly, still feels like our show, and there isn’t a shift that takes us out too much,” he explained of season 6.
“So that part is always the driving force, wherever the case takes them, whether it’s New York or some other place. I will happily report that London has been incredible for us.”
Only Murders in the Building season 6 is set to air on Disney+ and Hulu. Seasons 1-5 can be found on the same platforms.
