Tollcross cocktail bar unveils £100,000 makeover as The King’s Theatre reopens.
The Blackbird, on Leven Street in Tollcross, has been given a contemporary new look to coincide with the reopening of the nearby King’s Theatre.
The venue’s makeover features plaster-pink, terracotta and blue-green interiors alongside new tiling, globe lighting and pop-art touches.
Its garden terrace, described as a green urban oasis in the city centre, will also be a welcoming space for customers throughout the summer.
The investment marks the first stage of a series of developments planned at the bar during 2026, with a second phase due to take place later this year.
A new cocktail menu has also been introduced, including the Joggling Board, made with rum, orange liqueur, sweet Italian vermouth, grapefruit and turmeric.
Other additions include the tequila-based Kingston Dove, a frozen house martini and a range of alcohol-free cocktails, beers and ciders.
The bar’s new all-day food menu features dishes including burrata with honeydew melon salsa and prosciutto crisps, pork belly with curried cauliflower, and fried chicken with peach hot sauce.
Colin Church, managing director and co-owner of Edinburgh bar and events company Big Red Teapot, which operates The Blackbird, said: “We’re so excited to be showcasing our bold new look in time for the Festival and to coincide with the grand reopening of the beautiful King’s Theatre, located just opposite on Leven Street.
“Following a major £100,000 investment, we’re elevating the customer experience even further with an exciting new interior makeover, as well as new food and cocktail menus.
“We look forward to welcoming back local neighbourhood customers, as well as festival-goers and King’s Theatre audiences this summer and beyond.”
The Blackbird is open seven days a week from noon until late.
