The council has kicked out a plan for a fast food trailer and fruit stall in Hall Green
Planners refused to grant retrospective planning permission for the yellow painted steel trailer which and has been situated at the junction of the busy Stratford Road and Cateswell Road, since last November but wasn’t operational.
The trailer was proposing to serve food daily between 12pm and 1am, with two full-time members of staff and one part-time employee.

The food stall -which was also constructed last November but not open- would have served fresh breakfast, fruits and vegetables stall and operated daily between 8am and 8pm.
The site fell within the Hall Green Local Centre and primary shopping area where concerns have been raised about the proliferation of takeaways and effect on health.

Council officers refused permission stating: “Due to their location, scale, design and materials to be used the food trailer, food stall and front extension would represent incongruous and obtrusive features within the street scene which have a detrimental impact on the visual amenity of the surrounding area.
“The use of the proposed food trailer would have an adverse impact on the amenities of occupants of nearby residential properties due to noise disturbance and odours and smoke generated.”
The trailer would have served fast food items such as burgers, fries, chicken wings, and hot and cold beverages.
A supporting statement by the applicant said “The retrospective and proposed developments” aimed to provide practical, economic, and community benefits to the local area.
“The fresh breakfast and fruit and vegetable stall, food trailer, and shelter will contribute to the availability of fresh produce, fast food, and sheltered space for charitable purposes.
“Provisions for waste management and ventilation ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
“The development has been designed to be functional and visually appropriate, supporting both the local economy and community needs.”
