The new series of Only Murders in the Building has expanded on its Doctor Who reunion as another actor who played the Time Lord in the BBC series has joined the cast of the returning crime drama.
After David Tennant and Jodie Whittaker were confirmed for season six, which is set to take place this side of the pond, Peter Capaldi has now officially become part of the ensemble as a recurring guest star (via Deadline).
The trio have each played a different incarnation of the Doctor, with Capaldi taking on the role between 2014 and 2017, Whittaker being the first woman who played the iconic character between 2018 and 2022, and Tennant returning in a regeneration twist in 2023 after his 2005-2010 tenure.

While Tennant and Whittaker have been spotted on set for the new season of Only Murders in character as a photographer and barrister respectively, not much is known about Capaldi’s role at this stage.
Alongside the TV series’ Doctors, the new instalment of the show following New York City’s amateur sleuths and podcasters Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short), and Mabel (Selena Gomez) also features Jim Broadbent, who appeared as an alternate version of the Eleventh Doctor in the 1999 Comic Relief special Doctor Who: The Curse of Fatal Death.
Other stars announced for season six of the Hulu and Disney+ series are Absolutely Fabulous icon Jennifer Saunders, Bridgerton’s Simone Ashley and Nicola Coughlan, Heartstopper’s Rhea Norwood, and Bad Sisters’ Sharon Horgan.
They are joined by Richard Ayoade, Adrian Lukis, Kathryn Hunter, Sean Teale, Amar Chadha-Patel, Matthew Beard, Martin Freeman, Geri Halliwell-Horner, Jamie Demetriou, Anjana Vasan, Jane Horrocks, Derek Jacobi, Lesley Nicol and even Olivia Colman, if Gomez’s Instagram post is anything to go by.
The upcoming episodes marks the first time Only Murders’ protagonist detectives leave the US for one of their cases.

Season four saw them hopping onto the West Coast to follow the investigation into the death of Charles’ stunt double and pal, Sazz (Jane Lynch), but the three of them have never ventured outside of the States – until now.
A deadly cliffhanger at the end of season five saw a wounded Cinda Canning – the trio’s nemesis and fellow podcaster played by Tina Fey – dragging herself to the Arconia and dying moments after crossing its gates, making hers yet another murder in the Italian Renaissance Revival building.
It is then explained that Cinda was working on the case of a woman unjustly accused of murdering a member of the British Royal Family, with this revelation sending the trio’s investigation into a whole new direction.
Only Murders in the Building season 6 is in production. Seasons 1-5 are streaming on Hulu and Disney+ now.
