A map has demonstrated the stark differences in A Levels results across Greater Manchester as thousands of students have been finding out how well they did in their exams today (August 13).
Hundreds of thousands of pupils across England, Wales and Northern Ireland have opened up their results on Thursday morning, including students across Greater Manchester.
The best performing borough of Greater Manchester was Trafford – with over 45% of students getting an A or A* in their A Levels, it has been revealed.

On the other end of the spectrum, only 13.6% of students in Salford received either an A or an A* in their A Levels this year, compared to a national average of 28%.
Stockport and Manchester were the only two other areas of Greater Manchester to outperform the national average, with 33.70% and 30.40% getting an A or above respectively.
It comes as school and college leavers received their A Level and AS grades today, as well as results for vocational technical qualifications (VTQs) at Level 3. Students in England also received their results for T Levels – which were launched to provide high-quality technical alternatives to A-levels.
The total number of A-level entries has topped 900,000 for the first time, with the population of 18-year-olds increasing this year. More than a quarter (28.5%) of UK entries were awarded an A or A* grade, up by 0.2% percentage points on last year, when 28.3% achieved the top grades.
Maths remained the most popular subject at A-level this year – the 13th year in a row it has topped the table. And boys have outperformed girls in terms of top grades again, after doing so for the first time in seven years last year. Overall, 28.9% of boys’ A-level entries scored an A* or A this summer, compared to 28.0% of their female classmates’ entries – a gap of 0.9 percentage points.
