Sheffield Wednesday owner David Storch has hailed Max Lowe on and off the pitch after the opening day win over Leyton Orient.
Sheffield Wednesday have made the perfect start to the 2026/27 campaign after their summer rebuild. Following a Carabao Cup win over Bolton Wanderers, SWFC defeated Leyton Orient in their first game back in League One, winning 2-1.
Summer signing Callum Slattery opened the scoring before Joseph Olowu equalised for the hosts. With around 25 minutes left on the clock, Jamal Lowe scored the winner as the Owls returned to the Steel City with all three points.
Among the strong performers at Brisbane Road was Max Lowe, who prompted praise from both fans and owner David Storch. Writing on X post-match, the Sheffield Wednesday hailed him as a player and person.

Lowe joined Sheffield Wednesday in a cross-city move from Sheffield United in 2024. He was a consisent Championship performer for the Owls, offering his services anywhere on the left-hand side of defence.
Despite interest from elsewhere, the former Derby County man stuck it out at Hillsborough through their crisis last season. Many thought he would make a deserved move back to the Championship following relegation and few at SWFC would have had any grievances with him doing so.
However, Lowe signed a new contract in May, penning a one-year deal with an option to extend. His loyalty despite the struggles and relegation has earned him a place in the hearts of the Wednesday faithful, and clearly of Storch too.
Lowe will be backed to hold an ever-present role in Henrik Pedersen‘s side this term. Sheffield Wednesday want to sign a new left-back but the 29-year-old will be first-choice for the Danish boss.

After a torrid 2025/26 campaign, Sheffield Wednesday have started the new season with back-to-back wins.
The extent of their recruitment drive this summer has increased expectations, but the Owls are dealing with it well early on. They boast a good balance of experience and talent thanks to their work in the transfer window, but they are not done yet.
Pedersen will hope the spirit garnered through last year’s struggles means his players are prepared for the turbulence of League One football. With leaders and top characters like defender Lowe, the squad feels ready to challenge for a return to the Championship at the earliest opportunity.
Up next for SWFC is a home tie against Bradford City. The Bantams are eager to compete for promotion themselves, having come up short in the League One play-offs last season.
