A movie which features Kilcreggan Pier and the Waverley paddle steamer has had a sellout premier at the Edinburgh Film Festival.
Part of Kilcreggan was transformed into the Orkney town of Stromness when Borges and Me was filmed there in 2024, with the Waverley being chartered for the occasion.
The film, a romantic account of a road trip across the highlands with the famous Argentinian writer, opened in Edinburgh on Saturday and was described as having’ great sweetness and high-minded, unworldly charm’ in a review in the Guardian, while Deadline News said it was ‘smart, literary and playful’.
As well as the pier and the Waverley, the film also starred Alan Cumming, Fionn Whitehead, Freya Mavor, John Gordon Sinclair, Luis Gnecco, Morven Christie and Peter Mullan and Stuart Bowman.
It tells how the brilliant, blind Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges is chauffeured through Scotland in 1970.
It is directed by Marc Turtletaub and financed by Big Beach, with producers including Alex Polunin from Ossian International in the UK.
