Coimisiún na Meán Executive chairperson Jeremy Godfrey said they will investigate if TikTok is in breach of its obligations.
It comes after TikTok said it was closely monitoring content related to the deaths of five teenage boys in a collision when their car was driven the wrong way down the M9 motorway in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Sinn Féin denies its members painted over a Brendan Hughes mural in west Belfast
Sinn Féin has rejected claims that its members were behind the removal of a mural to leading IRA man Brendan ‘The Dark’ Hughes in west Belfast.
It is the first time the party has commented on the matter following allegations by dissident republicans that Sinn Féin members were responsible for painting over the mural in the Twinbrook area of the city.
Ann Travers to meet Irish President over Mary McArdle photo backlash
Ann Travers is expected to meet with the Irish President Catherine Connolly next month, weeks after she was criticised for posing with her sister’s IRA killer.
During a visit to Belfast earlier this month, Ms Connolly was pictured beside Mary McArdle outside Falls Women’s Centre.
She is the only person convicted for the 1984 murder of school teacher Mary Travers, who was gunned down by two IRA men as she left Mass at a south Belfast church on April 8, 1984.

Posting an update on a GoFundMe page set up for the 44-year-old, his father said the family were waiting on a date for the move, and thanked the more than 1,300 people who have donated.
Northern Ireland council to install automated car parking charges at forest parks
A council is set to install automated car parking charges at its four forest parks.
The parks affected are Castlewellan, Kilbroney in Rostrevor, Delamont outside Killyleagh and Slieve Gullion outside Meigh, Co Armagh.
The new parking fees system will involved ‘Automated Number Plate recognition’, it has been confirmed.

Brian Peters thought he was done with boxing when Katie Taylor came along.
Since Wayne McCullagh had headlined the first show he’d run in 1993, Peters had worked with his boyhood idol ‘Sugar’ Ray Leonard, he’d guided Bernard Dunne to the world title and he’d packed out stadia throughout Ireland.
But the sport was changing and with “different elements” becoming increasingly influential, Peters decided to walk off into the sunset when his contract ended with RTE.
However, fate had other plans for the Meath native but he took some convincing when the chance came to manage Taylor.
