There’s a new member of the British royal family! Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, welcomed their baby girl, Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank, on Aug. 3, 2026.
Although one part of her name, Elizabeth, was expected, the rest was not. And now, royal fans are claiming it’s a tribute to Prince William and Kate Middleton.
How? Well, the new royal’s first name is Adelaide, reportedly inspired by Maria Adelaide of Portugal and William IV’s wife, Queen Adelaide. That seems pretty straightforward, but some are pointing out the subtle connection to the Prince and Princess of Wales, who used to reside at Adelaide Cottage in Windsor.
Many are even suggesting the name could hint at where Eugenie and her family might live in London. They’ve been staying at Kensington Palace while in London, but there’s only three bedrooms, so not as comfortable for a family of five. Adelaide Cottage, which William and Kate already vacated, has four bedrooms.
The baby’s middle name, Elizabeth, is a tribute to Queen Elizabeth II. It’s a name shared by many family members, including both of Princess Beatrice’s daughters. Eugenie and Brooksbank have yet to confirm the meaning behind their daughter’s second middle name, Annina, but Eugenie does have a friend named Annina Pfuel.
Eugenie introduced her daughter on Instagram and shared the name they’d chosen. “2 weeks ago today we welcomed our girl to the world. And since then we’ve had the most special, cosy and love-filled time,” she wrote.
“We are so happy to share Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank. Named after three people we love and admire past and present, including her Great-Grandmother who we hold close in our hearts. Her name is part of English and Portuguese history, two places we love and call home,” she continued. “Augie and Ernie are already the best big brothers.”
This all comes after reports that Kate Middleton had officially “severed” ties with Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie due to the scandal surrounding former Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson.
‘Kate has effectively severed what little relationship she had with Beatrice and Eugenie,” a royal source told RadarOnline. “There hasn’t been some dramatic confrontation or explosive falling-out – it has been much quieter than that. The contact has simply disappeared. Kate understands that everything she and William do now is viewed through the prism of them being the future king and queen.”
“Beatrice and Eugenie have not been accused of wrongdoing, and nobody is suggesting otherwise, but the renewed scrutiny surrounding their parents has made an already complicated relationship even more difficult,” the source also said.
“Kate and Eugenie were never particularly close, so there wasn’t an enormous friendship there to lose,” the source continued. “But there was previously a family connection and a degree of warmth. That’s largely gone. Kate’s priority is William, their children and protecting the future of the monarchy.”
