A Co Tyrone pipe band has returned from the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow with two world titles.
Bready Ulster Scots Pipe Band was crowned world champion in Grade 4B at Glasgow Green last weekend, and also took first place for Drum Corps in the same grade.
The band was the only Grade 4B outfit from the north to qualify for the final.
They finished ahead of a 12-band field with judges’ placings of 3, 3, 1 and 2.
The news tops off a strong summer for the band, which was named Ulster champion earlier this month for the second year running.
A spokesperson for the band said: “A weekend we will never forget…. We still can’t believe it, we are World Champions!
“What an incredible achievement for our band.
“So much hard work, dedication and support has gone into making this happen, and we couldn’t be prouder.
“A huge thank you to Byrne Coaches for transporting us to the boat and bringing us safely home again.
“This amazing trip was made possible by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and The National Lottery.
“Thank you so much for your support and for helping make this unforgettable weekend possible.
“World Champions 2026 — memories that will last a lifetime.”
In a statement, the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association’s Northern Ireland branch said Bready had “conquered” at Glasgow Green, having qualified as the north’s only band in the grade.
“Marching in proudly as the sole Grade 4B band from Northern Ireland to qualify, Bready claimed the title of World Champions, and also lifted Best Drum Corps in the final of twelve with 3,3,1,2 — a result that speaks to their precision, their discipline, their musicality, and the unmistakable heart they brought to the Green,” it added.
The band marked the win on Tuesday night with an open practice at the Sollus Centre in Bready, where the public was invited to hear the new world champions play.
