Apple TV has revealed the cast for the second season of Murderbot, the sci-fi action comedy-drama which sees Alexander Skarsgård portray the titular security cyborg who happens to have developed its own personality.
A whole host of names have been announced, with most of them playing one-off guest roles. In the long list, we’ve got Succession’s Nicholas Braun, Ted Lasso’s Brendan Hunt and Good Omens star Michael Sheen.
They will be joined by several other famous faces including Blair Underwood, Bridget Everett, Britne Oldford, Damian Young, Kali Reis, Katy O’Brian, Marc Menchaca, Martha Plimpton, Patton Oswalt, Steve Buscemi, Topher Grace and Tramell Tillman.

In terms of returning cast members, we’ve got Skarsgård (obviously), John Cho, Noma Dumezweni, David Dastmalchian, Clark Gregg, Jack McBrayer, Sabrina Wu, Akshay Khanna, Tattiawna Jones, Tamara Podemski and DeWanda Wise.
Unfortunately, we don’t have any idea of the release window for the eagerly-awaited second season. Filming has been taking place across the last few months, so we’d expect it to release at some point in 2027.
The series, which is created by Paul and Chris Weitz, is based on Martha Wells’s The Murderbot Diaries. In addition to starring in the lead role, Skarsgård also serves as an executive producer alongside David S Goyer and others.
The first season was a big hit with critics, with Rotten Tomatoes currently reporting a near-perfect approval rating of 95% from 82 reviews. Viewers also enjoyed it, with the audience score sitting at a pretty 82%.

“The show’s take on the gulf between humans and machines is a delightful departure from expectations often outlined by similar stories about AI,” opined The Atlantic, while YouTube channel We’re Watching What?! called it a “brilliant adaptation”.
“Skarsgård, for his part, is excellent here, offering up a performance that nails the character’s tightrope-walk,” wrote RogerEbert.com, while The Newnan Times Herald dubbed it “great fun and richly entertaining”.
