A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a 19-year-old man after an incident on a Greater Manchester street.

Emergency services, including Greater Manchester Police, were called to Porritt Street, Bury, shortly after 8pm on Monday (May 19) following a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

The man, who has not yet been formally identified, has now died.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “Following the incident, a man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in police custody for questioning.

“A scene remains in place and an investigation is now being run by our Major Incident Team with enquiries ongoing.

“As their work continues, officers are appealing for information and anyone who may have witnessed last night’s events.

“This includes anyone with any dashcam, CCTV, or mobile phone footage from the area at the time of the incident.”

Detective Superintendent Wesley Knights said: “Firstly, I would like to express my deepest condolences to the family of the deceased during this incredibly difficult time.

“This is a truly tragic incident which has seen a young man lose his life, I would like to reassure the public that this is a targeted attack and there is no wider threat to the community.

“Local officers will remain in the area making enquiries, as well as an increased number of highly visible patrols overnight and into Tuesday. If you have any concerns, please speak to them.
