Since missing the cut at The Masters, DeChambeau did not speak to the media at major championships all year. At The Open Championship, he hosted his own interview with a reporter, which he sent out to the media, and he declined to comment on his rules controversy after he was docked two strokes.
This frostiness continued at LIV Indianapolis. DeChambeau called a few members of the media the “mafia” when he arrived at the driving range. He’s likely unhappy with the media coverage of LIV Golf over the last few months.
After that comment, DeChambeau was evidently unhappy with his golf swing and then had a media member who was filming him practice thrown out of the driving range. It wasn’t the 32-year-old American’s finest hour, but he might have made up for it after.

The news that DeChambeau threw a media member off the driving range spread quickly, as many flooded social media to criticise the two-time major winner.
However, the media member in question, @acaseofthegolf1 on X, took to the platform to explain what DeChambeau did afterwards to make up for it.
He posted, “Bryson gave me a call this afternoon, we spoke for about 20 mins. While the conversation will remain off the record, I really appreciate him calling. A lot of players wouldn’t have done that.”

DeChambeau clearly has a lot on his mind at the moment, from his disappointing personal performances to the ongoing issues on LIV Golf. With that in mind, we can better understand his outburst at the range.
It was good of DeChambeau to call the media member afterwards, and to do so privately. That was a display of some class after some difficult moments for the American.
