SCONE – Greg Polson

WELWAL – Confident there is a win in the weeks ahead for the Mick Price and Michael Kent (Jnr)-trained Welwal. The imported gelding settled at the back of the field both runs this time in giving away impossible starts in fast run races, finishing off strongly. There was four-weeks between his two runs and Saturday’s race was 1300m in Luskin Star Stakes where the leaders cleared out so the beaten margin was more than six lengths but Welwal was last of 15 on the turn and finished sixth. Expecting him to step up to 1600m next start with the potential for a change of tactics notification that he will be more forward in running. The soft winter tracks are ideal, and I want to be on where the stable decides to go. Career statistics (23:5-5-2).

FLEMINGTON – Aaron Mills

POLITELY DUN – It’s all systems go for a Queensland Derby tilt after his strong win on Saturday. Having his first start in six weeks, Politely Dun relished the high pace in deteriorating conditions, running on strongly from the back half to take over with time to spare. Trainer Danny O’Brien immediately indicated the son of Dundeel had booked his trip north where the 2400 metre contest at Eagle Farm on the final day of May looks ideal. Career statistics (13:2-2-3).

DOOMBEN – Graeme Carey

GRAFTERBURNERS – Resuming on Saturday, Grafterburners showed he is in for a good winter campaign with a strong effort in the Group 2 Spirit Of Boom Classic over 1200m to finish third. The colt by Graff began well enough but was forced to travel four wide without cover, six lengths off them. He was the widest runner straightening with the runner-up Gallo Nero. Grafterburners loomed at the 150m but faded late to be beaten a half a length behind Cool Archie. He will improve off that, can handle longer and a good black-type race is not beyond him. Career statistics (6:2-1-2).

MORPHETTVILLE PARKS – Heath Pope

WINNING REVOLUTION – Honest gelding that is rarely far away and that was again the case on Saturday. Should be peaking with two solid runs under the belt, getting too far back on both occasions. On Saturday in the Benchmark 78 Handicap over 1000m he was back last at the turn before unleashing a strong finish, running the second best last 400m sectional for the meeting. Would love to see them find an 1100m race for him as he’s genuine and generally goes around over the odds due to his get back and run on racing style. Career statistics (40:6-6-7).

BELMONT – Aaron Mills

SUNNY HONEY – This gelding has a great affinity with the Belmont Park circuit and looks in for a good winter after an excellent run resuming. Stepping slowly and settling in the back half of a small field, Sunny Honey recorded race best closing splits to finish third. He’d had two trials prior so might not be far off his peak and handles all conditions so there’s no worries if Sunny Honey strikes a wet track. Career statistics (32:5-1-8).
