The Coffee Pod is far too talented to discount off his lowly mark but he’s looked tricky in both outings in 2025 and does now come with risks attached. Nogo’s Dream looks sure to go well again but MAHARAJAS EXPRESS had a host of excuses at Lingfield nine days ago and his earlier AW form suggests he’s still on a manageable mark.
The market can help sort out the newcomers, of whom Eyes Front and Eclipser make most appeal on breeding, but they have a good standard to aim at. Dapper Charm and Ahead Of Fashion are both of interest but RISING EMPIRE is preferred. Andrew Balding’s juvenile shaped with considerable promise on his Leicester debut and he can leave that run well behind over today’s extra furlong.
Blue Bolt didn’t live up to market expectations at Southwell last month but she should know more this time and is a likely improver on this step up in trip. Kempton winner Electrifarhh is respected under a penalty on her return, while the two striking newcomers Bintazzo and Satavia need a close look in the market. However, the vote goes to CHINKARA, who sets the standard on her promising effort in a useful novice at Ascot and represents a yard that had a 42% record with 3yos here last season.
Few would begrudge Existent a win as he has run umpteen good races in defeat this year, including at Goodwood 17 days ago when looking like he may finally end his barren spell, only to be picked off close home. He looks sure to go well again but there are other in-form opponents with more persuasive win records in the field. Ziggy’s Missile and Toca Madera can feature but REGAL ENVOY (nap) goes from strength to strength and he can resume winning ways after a solid second over 6f here last week.
This is highly competitive but the vote goes to the unexposed 4yo KINGKEER, who made his breakthrough with a convincing win over C&D two weeks ago and is open to more progress. Last month’s Chelmsford winner Cavalry Call is feared most, although Macari was as good as ever when scoring at Salisbury on Thursday and he’s respected on his drop back in trip. Educator enters the reckoning after his smooth success at Lingfield, while others to consider are Fast Steps and First Officer.
Riyadh Gem made it 2-2 in handicaps when scoring at Wolverhampton last month and he’s respected on this switch to turf. Dalmally has plenty of stamina in his pedigree and looks a possible improver on his step up to this trip, while there are some handicap newcomers who need a close look including Richard Hannon’s Schemaya. However, the vote goes to NORTHWEST PASSAGE, who has finished runner-up in his last two starts and he didn’t get any luck at Goodwood last time.
Offiah’s Boy should go well off the same mark as when going close at Leicester recently while Charles Morin comes into it on his form last summer. It’s also too soon to give up on Formal Address but CROWD QUAKE improved for this trip and the switch to turf when winning over C&D last time out and he can plunder another race at this ordinary level.
