Fluence Energy GmbH and LEAG Clean Power GmbH have started deployment of the 400 MWh Heinersbrück GridBattery energy storage project in eastern Germany. The battery will be co-located with wind and solar generation assets on recultivated former mining land and is scheduled for completion in 2027. It is the second battery project delivered jointly by the companies, following the 1 GW / 4 GWh GigaBattery Jänschwalde 1000 development in the same region. Fluence is responsible for the design, supply, and construction of the facility using its modular Smartstack technology. The system will share a grid connection point with wind and photovoltaic assets to store surplus electricity for dispatch when needed. The project is part of LEAG’s plan to repurpose former mining areas and infrastructure during Germany’s coal phase-out.
