Sheffield United left-back Rhys Norrington-Davies is attracting interest from Championship rivals Portsmouth.
Sheffield United’s latest ownership crisis has changed recruitment plans for the summer transfer window. SUFC have players they are willing to offload, despite being limited in who they can sign.
And, one man lined up for an exit is left-back Rhys Norrington-Davies. A new report from The Star reveals that fellow Championship side Portsmouth are targeting a deal for the Welshman, who spent last year on loan with Julien Stephan’s QPR.
As it stands, any deal to take Norrington-Davies to Pompey would be a loan. That would take him to the end of his contract, which runs out at the end of the 2026/27 season.

Norrington-Davies has been back around the Sheffield United squad in the early stages of the season. After starting in the Carabao Cup against Mansfield Town, he made a brief appearance in the 0-0 draw with Swansea City on Saturday.
However, the 27-year-old is currently the third choice left-back in Chris Wilder‘s squad. Both Harrison Burrows and Sam McCallum are ahead of Norrington-Davies in the pecking order.
That was the case last year, hence why he switched to QPR on loan. It was perhaps expected he would leave permanently this summer, allowing SUFC to get a fee for his services before his deal runs out, but as someone who joined for a nominal fee coming up on 10 years ago, there isn’t so much pressure to cash in and get return value.
Norrington-Davies needs to head elsewhere for game time and Portsmouth can offer it. There may be other options though, so he will be keen to assess all potential avenues.

It remains to be seen whether Norrington-Davies has other exit options to consider. But, on paper, a move to Portsmouth could be ideal for the Sheffield United man.
Pompey have two left-backs on the books in Connor Ogilvie and Jacob Farrell, but both are currently injured. In fact, the latter has had a torrid time at Fratton Park, sitting on the sidelines for lengthy spells despite his obvious promise.
Norrington-Davies would be a smart recruit. He’s a plug-and-play option, as his experience at the level means he can come straight into the side and be expected to do a job in the Championship.
Furthermore, there is scope for Pompey to sign him permanently as his SUFC deal runs down. It is a chance for the Welshman to put himself in the shop window with free agency likely next year.
