Luxembourgish broadcaster RTL will discuss with the Great Duchy Government about funding the participation in Eurovision 2026.

RTL Luxembourg has discussed its potential participation in Eurovision 2026, which will be the 70th edition of the contest, as being contingent on financial support from the government.

According to the broadcaster, “no decision had been made yet”, adding that “discussions are currently ongoing with the government, who is financing the project, with a final decision to be taken in the coming weeks”.

Luxembourg was represented this year at Basel by Laura Thorn with “La poupée monte le son”, ending up 22nd with 47 points. This is the worst result of the country since its comeback in 2024, when Luxembourg came 13th with Tali and “Fighter”.

Luxembourg was one of seven countries to take part in the first Eurovision Song Contest in 1956. Luxembourg participated in the contest 37 times before withdrawing from the contest after 1993. During these 37 years, they won the contest five times, the last of these victories came in 1983. Luxembourg came close to returning to the contest in 2004, however, opted against it due to the financial cost of participating. They eventually returned in 2024, after an absence of 31 years.
