Suspended jail term for Heswall telehandler operator after fatal site incident
A self-employed telehandler driver has been sentenced after he reversed over his colleague on a construction site in Ellesmere Port, causing fatal injuries.
In June 2023, 49-year-old James Connolly (pictured) was working as a lift supervisor on a large construction site in Ince, Ellesmere Port, where Michael Nixon was working as a telehandler operator.
Wirral man charged with multiple shop thefts
Police have charged a Wirral man with multiple shop thefts and breaches of a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) as part of an ongoing investigation.
Kyle Murphy, 38, of no fixed abode, was arrested on Monday, 16 August. He has now been charged with the following offences: 14 Theft shop offences, from supermarkets and shops in West Kirby, Birkenhead, Bidston, Liscard, and Liverpool, and 14 Breaches of CBO.

Police have arrested a teenage boy and a 20-year-old man after a Sur-Ron motorbike and several wraps of cannabis were seized in Woodchurch on Thursday, 20 August.
At around 6.15pm officers who were on patrol spotted two males riding a black and gold Sur-Ron electric motorbike on Hoole Road.
Car stolen in New Brighton recovered in Staffordshire within two hours
A man has been charged after a car was stolen from a drive in New Brighton and stopped by police just two hours later in Staffordshire.
Just after 4am on Friday, 14 August, Merseyside Police received a report that a silver MG was taken from a property on Mount Road in New Brighton.

Wirral Girls’ Football Tournament returns for fifth year
The Wirral Girls’ Football Tournament returns for its fifth year on Saturday, 22 August, at Leasowe Recreation Centre, bringing together 300 girls from 26 grassroots teams across Merseyside, north Wales and Cheshire for a day of sport, empowerment, and community action.
The tournament will feature more than 50 matches and aims to provide a safe, inclusive space for young girls to enjoy football, build confidence, and develop teamwork skills. It also serves as a platform to raise awareness around gender-based violence and promote safety, resilience, and wellbeing.
