She has had to cancel two of her planned UK shows this week and told fans: “It pains me to make this decision, but I just can’t perform.”

Two eagerly anticipated show from American singer Violet Grohl have been cancelled – just hours before her first sold-out gig in Manchester was due to take place tonight. Violet was due to perform at the start of her first ever UK tour at Manchester’s iconic Band on the Wall venue on Tuesday night, August 25, before heading to Glasgow on Wednesday.
The Manchester gig had earlier been upgraded to Band on the Wall from the Deaf Institute in the city, such was demand for tickets from fans. Violet was due to perform following the release of her acclaimed debut album Be Sweet To Me.
But on Tuesday afternoon, a statement on the venue’s website said that the show was postponed “due to unforeseen circumstances”. Later on Tuesday, Violet confirmed she has lost her voice and is unable to perform.

Violet, the daughter of Foo Fighters legend Dave Grohl, had earlier been forced to withdraw from a planned performance at the Pukkelpop festival in Belgium over the weekend. She had explained to fans at the time that she was suffering from laryngitis.

In a post shared on her instagram stories on Saturday, she wrote: “Hey beautiful people I’ve come down with laryngitis and unfortunately I’m gonna have to hold off on performing at pukkelpop this afternoon.”
She added: “This is truly the last thing I want to do but I have no voice. I hope to be back soon and give you everything I’ve got.”
Violet has now updated fans with a new statement, confirming that both her Manchester gig and tomorrow night’s show in Glasgow at the iconic King Tut’s on August 26, are both now cancelled.
Her statement, shared on her Instagram stories, was shared with a photo of an iconic Northern Quarter building, close to where her Band on the Wall gig was due to take place tonight. She wrote: “Hey everyone really f***ing bummed to let yall know I’m cancelling tonight and tomorrow’s shows in Manchester and Glasgow. I don’t have a voice right now and it pains me to make this decision, but I just can’t perform.”
She added: “We’re rescheduling these shows and everyone who bought a ticket will receive the updated info. Looking forward to you soon xx i’ll be back!!!”

An official statement on the Manchester gig cancellation said: “Due to artist illness, tonight’s Violet Grohl show at Band On The Wall is postponed. A rescheduled date will be announced shortly. Thank you for your understanding and patience.”
Violet is next due to appear at the Reading and Leeds Festival over the bank holiday weekend. Next week she is due to appear in London, and then is set to play Liverpool, Bristol and Brighton in October.
There has been a huge buzz around the singer which has been building with standout tracks including Bug in a Cake and THUM. She recorded her debut album in LA, inspired by alternative music from the 80s and 90.
She said at the time of release: “There’s something so powerful about that period of music, from the messaging to the visuals, it’s authentic and raw.”
Hailing the likes of Pixies, Soundgarden, Cocteau Twins, The Breeders, PJ Harvey, The Muffs, Björk, Alice in Chains, L7, Juliana Hatfield, she added “I’ve listened to that stuff since I was a kid.”
