Piles of offal brought a busy road to a “standstill” earlier after intestines spilled from a lorry in West Yorkshire.

The spill prompted the closure of the westbound exit slip road at Junction 26 of the M62 at Hartshead Moor Top at about 05:25 BST.

The lorry was then seen shedding its load along Denholme Gate Road in Hipperholme, where driver Nic Cole said vehicles were “sliding on the intestines”.

National Highways confirmed the motorway slip road had reopened just after 10:30 BST following a clean-up.

Cole said: “Honestly, the whole town was at a standstill with people even thinking it was aliens.

“People were being sick on the side of the street with the smell.”
