A joyful musical celebrating ‘one of Scotland’s proudest traditions’ is set to transform The Old Town Hall in High Wycombe this November.
CEILIDH began its performing journey at the Pitlochry Town Hall in Scotland before touring venues across the UK and making its way to High Wycombe later this year.
The production is described as an ‘extraordinary musical’. The immersive experience blends together traditional Scottish songs and dances with family stories that unfold throughout the night before coming together for a final celebration.
Tony Award-winning director Sam Pinkleton said that “There is absolutely nothing like CEILIDH” and that he can not wait to “let this joyful celebration loose on audiences”.
Credited writing duo Scott Gilmour and Claire McKenzie said: “At its heart, a ceilidh is about gathering together,” a theme reflected throughout the show’s celebration of Scottish tradition.
Since beginning their journey in 2012 as the company Noisemaker, they have written and produced over 20 new works. Reflecting on the show’s journey, they said that watching the “brilliant, chaotic energy” travel across the UK has been “a total thrill”.
Alan Cumming, Artistic Director of Pitlochry Festival Theatre, where the show first opened, described it as “a gorgeous, heartfelt story” with him stating the show and music was “pure Highland magic.”
