A man was arrested in Bristol yesterday (May 19) and remains in police custody after a shop worker was threatening with a sharp object, police have said.

The incident happened shortly after 9am in the Highridge area in south Bristol with police receiving multiple calls about a man in possession of a sharp object and making threats in Lakemead Grove.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: “A man is in police custody after an incident in Highridge, Bristol, on Monday morning, 19 May.

“Police had several calls from just after 9.05am, reporting a man in Lakemead Grove reportedly in possession of a sharp object and making threats. A local shop worker said they had been threatened with a broken bottle and had cash stolen from the till. Thankfully no members of the public were injured.

“A man in his forties was arrested on suspicion of robbery in nearby Cutler Road at 9.30am on Monday, and remains in police custody on Tuesday 20 May.”

Officers are now appealing to anyone with relevant footage of the incident who has not yet spoken to police to call 101, quoting the reference number 5225139246.
