A new Netflix series from Friday Night Dinner creator Robert Popper has been announced as part of the streamer’s slate of fresh UK commissions. Boasting a stacked cast including Timothy Spall and Loose Women’s Denise Welch, Marbles is a multi-generational comedy seeing a couple raising “ridiculously lively” boys as well as caring for their “ridiculously difficult” ageing parents.
Also starring Utopia star Alexandra Roach, Peep Show’s Robert Webb and Sherlock’s Louise Brealey, Marbles is comprised of six episodes.
The synopsis promises a “brilliantly-observed, laugh-out-loud” comedy about living in the middle of two generations and “slowly losing your marbles”.

“How do you stop your kids from hiding your keys in a bowl of milk, or sleeping in a cardboard box, while convincing your 75 year old father to move out of your bloody house?” the synopsis also asks. “For Sam and Samantha, this is their life. It’s a glorious mess. And it’s about to get messier.”
Welch shared her excitement for the show on Instagram, writing: “Thrilled about this one!!”
Fans were also quick to share their eagerness to watch the upcoming series, with one commenting on Instagram: “Anything Robert Popper does, I will watch.”
Another wrote: “Guaranteed delight. It will be another great addition to his superb lineup of shows! I Hate You, Friday Night Dinner, Look Around You!”

But that’s far from the only exciting thing coming up on Netflix.
The streamer also announced today that it’s working on a new six-part adaptation of Roald Dahl’s short stories for adults adapted by Brassic creator Danny Brocklehurst, also known for bringing multiple Harlan Coben novels to television.
This “deliciously twisted tale” has rounded out an excellent cast, with the likes of Nicola Coughlan, Toby Jones, Imelda Staunton, Dominic West and Naomi Scott onboard.
Marbles will stream on Netflix. A released date is yet to be announced.
