Sheffield United and Swansea City held talks over a loan deal for Stephen Mfuni, but his temporary switch to Coventry City is back on.
Sheffield United and Swansea City are eager to bolster their ranks before the window ends. Loans are set to be a focus for Championship clubs, especially SUFC given their ownership wrangles.
However, one player who won’t be joining the Blades or the Swans is Stephen Mfuni. Writing on X, Ben Jacobs states that the Championship pair had spoken to Manchester City over a possible deal for the young centre-back after a proposed Coventry City loan collapsed, but his move to the Sky Blues is now back on.
Mfuni starred for Watford before injury hit while on loan last season and has been lined up for a new loan. The Hornets wanted him back, while Derby County also had eyes on the 18-year-old.

Mfuni has had no shortage of transfer interest this summer. The young central defender has come all the way through the Manchester City setup and has quickly progressed through the U18s and U21s groups thanks to standout performances.
He joined Watford at only 17 and looked every bit a Championship player. Mfuni offered composure on the ball as the left-sided centre-back at Vicarage Road and more than dealt with the physical challenges in his first taste of senior football.
As a result of this success, it perhaps isn’t a great surprise to see him lined up for a Coventry City move. Nonetheless, Sheffield United, Swansea City and the other Championship admirers will be disappointed to have missed out on the deal after the encouragement of the transfer initial collapse.
Alas, Mfuni will be eager to impress in the top flight, and SUFC and co must turn their attentions elsewhere.

The new Mfuni developments will be disappointing for Sheffield United and Swansea City. However, they can not let it put them off what needs to be done in the final days of the summer transfer window.
SUFC are in dire need of defensive reinforcements. Their ownership issues are hampering transfer business, so loans and free transfers are the focus as Chris Wilder looks to strengthen at the back.
The Swans have had a good summer and have just completed the statement signing of FC Porto midfielder Sebastian Eustaquio. However, defence is a position of focus for them too, especially after Cameron Burgess suffered a serious achilles injury and Ben Cabango limped off against the Blades.
