West Ham are interested in Al-Shabab midfielder Josh Brownhill along with Birmingham City and Wrexham, according to TEAMtalk.
West Ham are being linked with a swoop for the former Burnley man before the end of the transfer window. WHUFC have until the deadline on Tuesday night to complete any final bits of incoming or outgoing business.
Brownhill, 30, is under contract in Saudi Arabia until 2027 so his long-term future in the Middle East is up in the air at this moment in time. He has made 37 appearances for Al-Shabab in all competitions to date and he has chipped in with seven goals and three assists.
In this latest update regarding his situation, TEAMtalk claim West Ham are keen on a move for the Warrington-born man along with Birmingham City and Wrexham. Southampton and Wolves have also been mentioned as potential suitors, along with Premier League new boys Hull City and Coventry City.
West Ham are eyeing an immediate promotion from the Championship this season under the guidance of head coach Nuno Espirito Santo. They have made a slow start though and are back in league action this weekend away at Watford as they look to bounce back from their loss to Charlton Athletic.
West Ham could see Brownhill as someone to bolster their midfield department. If he joined WHUFC, he would give them more competition and depth in the middle of the park.
He is an experienced operator and knows what it takes to get out of the second tier. Brownhill would inject useful quality into the Hammers’ squad and would be a useful individual to have in and around the dressing room.
Brownhill was a hit during his time at Burnley from 2020 to 2025 and was a key player for the Clarets. He scored 32 goals in 211 matches during his days at Turf Moor before Al-Shabab came calling.
The ex-Manchester United academy man broke into the first-team at Preston North End as a youngster. He then left Deepdale to spend four years with Bristol City.
Josh Brownhill stats for Al-Shabab in all competitions to date
The Verdict: Josh Brownhill would be solid addition for West Ham
Brownhill would fit the bill for West Ham if they managed to snap him up. He would be a very useful option for WHUFC to call upon in games this term.
However, he is likely to be on big wages at Al-Shabab so the Hammers would need to fork out money to get him. In addition, there appears to be plenty of competition for his services from the likes of Birmingham City, Wrexham, Southampton, Wolves, Coventry City and Hull City.
