Pushing back against the recent views of Glasgow, the series of Taste Of events offers a social dining experience with a real sense of community.

Two top food groups from Glasgow have come together to create a new way to introduce diners to some of the city’s best-loved eateries and to bring people together to eat in the city centre.
Local foodies Vinnie Rooney and his wife decided to start the Glasgow’s Good Food Group as a way for them and their friends to share all of the great places they’d eaten recently, and have teamed up with Chris and Stephen from food faves MyDine for the project.#
For them, it’s a way to bring people together through food, but also to push back against the recent negative views expressed about Glasgow’s city centre.
Vinnie said: “At a time when Glasgow is going through some bad press, we are doing our bit to bring folk into the city centre and enjoy themselves. We welcome anyone; our group is accepting of everyone.”
The groups, which just successfully held their latest A Taste Of event, this time of Latin America at El Santo on Millet Street, are keen to get people back out dining in Glasgow.
“Our table got talking about the Glasgow documentary and how although there are serious ongoing issues, it filmed Glasgow on an unprecedented week of political upshake and wasn’t a reflection on our city,” Vinnie addded. “We had a moment and realised a lot of the venues everywhere we enjoy and have been is celebrating culture and food from all over the world.
“There are so many hardworking and talented people from all over that bring colour, vibrancy and joy to our city so we want to continue to celebrate that. Our events are a safe fun place to enjoy excellent cuisine and meet fantastic people from all over.”
Chris was keen to point to the Taste of Latin America event as an example of how successful they’ve been with diners regularly coming back to them for the events which have covered everything from Greek street food with Yianni’s to Turkish cuisine with Laz.
Chris added: “Our members love getting together and making friends through the group. I’d say at a time when Glasgow is being portrayed as broken and a dangerous place to go to we are getting our members into the city and into some amazing restaurants.
“At a time like this it’s vital to support these places, to show our 67,000 + members that not only is it ok to go into town, it can be great.”
