A lot of work is said to have gone on behind the scenes to prepare for operations being transferred to a new state-of-the-art control room.

On Monday, August 31, people travelling on Subway services will notice a variety of differences.

Richard Robinson, director of Transport Operations at SPT, explained what to expect in stations and on the trains.

This includes fully operational platform screen doors at three stations, on-train announcements and passenger screens, and platform screens with live train arrivals.

Speaking on Friday, August 28, he said: “This is a really big weekend for us at Subway. We’re going through a major transition for our new signalling and communication system.

“What does this mean to you? Well, it means that, first of all, Sunday, August 30, we’re closed. We need to undertake a lot of work behind the scenes to make sure we’re ready for service on Monday morning.

“However, on Monday morning you should notice some differences as you come into our services.

“You’ll walk into the station, and the platform information screens will suddenly look slightly different.

“They’ll also be working alongside the new signalling system to bring you that up-to-date information around when trains are arriving and what you can see in terms of any other information we need to provide to you on your journey.

“As you get ready to board the train, you’ll notice if you’re at Govan, Partick, or Ibrox that our platform screen doors will now be operational, giving full coverage along the whole extent of the platform.”

We previously reported that the closures allowed for further testing of the Platform Screen Doors (PSDs), which have been fully installed at three stations in the city’s Southside.

Richard continued: “As the train comes into the platform, those doors will then flash and open in unison with the doors on the train to allow you to board the unit.

“When you get on that train, and you’re on the journey, you’ll suddenly start to notice there are onboard announcements.

“Hopefully these are really clear and give a nice tone to your journey as you go through our system. The screens will also give you that up-to-date information on where you are on your journey and really help people to navigate our system in the most seamless possible way.

“We really hope you enjoy the new capabilities that we’re bringing to you and welcome you to Subway.”
