Birmingham City, Wrexham and Derby County target Anis Mehmeti wants to stay and fight for his place at Ipswich Town, it is claimed.
Birmingham City, Wrexham and Derby County were all in and around the Championship play-off hunt last year. They’re looking to progress once again this term, with BCFC and the Red Dragons boasting especially high ambitions.
All three sides have been chasing Anis Mehmeti, with offers on the table from the Championship trio. Now though, in a new twist, Pete O’Rourke has claimed that the Ipswich Town man wants to stay at Portman Road and fight for his place in their Premier League plans.
Mehmeti only joined the Tractor Boys in the winter but their promotion and influx of new signings means he is down the pecking order. He has no shortage of interest but seemingly wants to make a fist of it in Suffolk.

Mehmeti is understandably eager to fight for his place at Ipswich Town. After bouncing around Premier League academies, he dropped all the way into the depths of non-league football with Woodford Town.
He has worked his way back up, first by starring at Wycombe Wanderers and then at Bristol City. The 25-year-old has taken the long route to the Premier League and now that he has a chance to prove himself there, it is understandable that he wants to try and prove he can deliver at the level.
However, the Tractor Boys are limited to a 25-man squad, and so far, Mehmeti has not made it into the matchday ranks for a Premier League or Carabao Cup game. Based on this and the business done, there is a chance he is omitted from the squad completely.
In this event, it would be a big error to pass up on a move elsewhere, especially with the likes of Birmingham City, Wrexham and Derby County keen. It would mean he can not play until January at the least, unless he heads abroad.

It remains to be seen just how Mehmeti’s situation pans out. However, a signing of his ilk does feel like a must for Birmingham City.
They were devoid of one true creative source last year, and although it has been a priority for this summer, the Blues are yet to sign such a player. Mehmeti is among those targeted, as was Rokas Pukstas, who i snow poised to move to Middlesbrough.
If Mehmeti is to stay put, BCFC have to be ready to look elsewhere. They need to strengthen in this area to have a chance at promotion so must have alternative targets in mind.
