Ryanair has made a major change to the check-in process for thousands of passengers flying from Scotland. In an email to customers, the low-cost airline said the move was to make passengers’ airport experience as “stress free” as possible as they highlighted the changes.

Customers travelling on an early morning flight will be able to take advantage of Ryanair‘s new initiative from Edinburgh Airport which allows them to drop their bags the night before they depart.

It will mean they can head straight to security when they arrive for the flight the next morning. The service will allow customers to skip queues in the morning and perhaps even grab some extra sleep before they travel.

It means those who stay close to the airport or who are staying in an airport hotel the night before they fly can have one less thing to do the morning of their flight.

In an email the airline said: “Ryanair want to make your airport experience as stress free as possible and are introducing a new customer service initiative.

“Customers travelling on an early morning flight, departing Edinburgh, can check-in their checked baggage at the airport the evening before their flight – allowing you to head straight to security when you arrive for your flight in the morning.”

The service is also available for Ryanair customers flying from Glasgow Airport.

Ryanair said that bag drop desks will be open 7 day a week from 4pm until 8pm the evening before passenger’s scheduled flight at Edinburgh Airport.

Your flight must have a departure time before 8am to be able to use the service.

They also highlighted that anyone wishing to use the service must have checked-in online in advance and have their boarding pass and travel documents with them when checking-in their luggage.

And they advised that all baggage will be subject to the normal security screening procedures.

Customers must remain in the airport terminal for 15 minutes after the bag has been checked should security have questions about your bags.

Passengers should be sure not to pack any essentials in their checked luggage as once it is checked-in, the bag won’t be able to be accessed until they reach their destination.

And for those wanting to take advantage of the Twilight Bag Drop, those who have a booking in an official Edinburgh Airport car park will also be able to access the 1 hour terminal parking area for free the night before they travel.

The following morning you should have your boarding passes and travel documentation when you approach your boarding gate.

Ryanair added: “Airline staff will be on hand to help you at the airport should you need any assistance, however, if you have any questions in relation to this service please to contact Ryanair Customer Care team.
