Germany, France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Italy remained the leading markets for Spanish fruit and vegetables in the first half of 2026; a period in which total exports fell by 0.6% in terms of volume, down to 6.5 million tons, while value grew by 6%, to €11,605 million.

The EU received 5.5 million tons, which is 84% of the total volume of fresh produce sales, and accounted for 82% of the value: €9,552 million.

Germany consolidated its position as the top buyer, importing 1.9 million tons, up 0.9% compared to the same period of the previous year. In value terms, sales reached €3,474 million; an increase of 6.3%, according to data from the Customs and Excise Department processed by Fepex.

France remained the second largest destination, with 1.14 million tons, down 3.5%, though the value of those shipments increased by 4.7% to €1,817 million. In the Netherlands, the third most important EU market, volume fell by 3.4% to 498,325 tons, while revenue grew by 5.6% to €944 million.

Among the main EU markets, Italy stood out with a 6.9% rise in terms of volume and 11.3% in terms of value, reaching 358,912 tons and €579 million. Positive results were also recorded in Portugal, with both volume and value up by 3.8% and 5.9%, respectively, to 435,461 tons and €490 million.

Poland, which remains one of the top destinations, reduced its purchases by 3.7% in terms of volume, down to 290,325 tons, but the value of its imports increased by 8%, to €521 million.

Among non-EU countries, the United Kingdom remained the leading destination, with 717,444 tons worth €1,413 million. Despite a 3% drop in volume, revenue grew by 2.1%, which confirms the stability of the British market as Spain’s top non-EU customer.

Switzerland ranked second among non-EU European destinations, with 105,901 tons and €290 million, recording a 4% drop in terms of volume and an 8.9% rise in terms of value. Norway’s imports from Spain also fell by 6.1% in terms of volume and 5.7% in terms of value.

Non-European markets continue to account for just a small share of Spanish exports. Fresh fruit and vegetable shipments to these markets reached 151,111 tons in the first half of 2026, up 18% year on year, with a total value of €198.4 million, up 5%. Despite this positive trend, non-European markets still represent just 2.3% of the total export volume and 1.7% of the total value of Spanish overseas sales.

Among the main non-European destinations, Canada stood out with 7,839 tons and €14.7 million, as well as Saudi Arabia, with 8,872 tons worth €14.6 million. In both cases, export volumes fell compared to the previous year, though the value of Saudi Arabia’s purchases increased by 9.1%.
