Read For Life is anew charity which aims to help adults living in Beeston, Holbeck and the surrounding area to read and write.
Founder, Emily Holloway, says:
“There are many reasons why an adult might struggle with reading. But there’s no reason that struggle has to last a lifetime.
“Whether you want to read to support your children’s learning, gain confidence with everyday tasks, find a better job, return to education, or simply enjoy the pleasure of a good book—Read for Life is here to help.”
The service offered is tailored to the individual and is entirely free. Whether you are starting from scratch or just want to improve your existing skills.
Using books and materials created especially for adults you’ll work one-to-one with a friendly reading coach at your own pace in a safe, public location such as a library or community centre.
Read For Life are also looking for compassionate, reliable volunteers to become reading coaches in the months ahead.
Volunteers will receive full training on how to use our adult-friendly resources, plus ongoing support every step of the way – from your first session with a learner onward.
As part of the process, you’ll also complete safeguarding training and a DBS check to help keep everyone safe.
