Leeds United got their sixth and seventh signings over the line on deadline day earlier this week.

Left-back Melvin Bard joined on loan from Nice. However, we have an option to buy the 25-year-old. If we do, the total fee, which includes the fee we paid to loan him, will amount to around £5.1million.

Jean-Matteo Bahoya was our final addition of the window. Like Bard, Bahoya too initially joined us on loan, but we have an obligation to buy the 21-year-old winger for around £25.7million should he make a certain number of appearances for us in the remainder of the campaign.

In his pre-game press conference ahead of our clash against Brighton on Saturday, Daniel Farke hinted at when we could see the duo we signed on deadline day make their United debuts.

It goes without saying that both Bahoya and Bard have not been at Leeds long. You would imagine that it is extremely unlikely that either of them will start against Brighton this weekend, barring any unexpected injuries we sustain in training.

However, Farke did leave the door open to his new arrivals featuring in some capacity against Brighton when asked in his pre-match press conference.

“Yes, they are eligible,” Farke said, as quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“(They) trained with us and, depending on next day’s, there is a chance for them to be in the squad.”

When asked what he thought about Bard and Bahoya as players, Farke had this to say:

“Good players. Melvin experienced at a really good level, many games in Ligue 1. Left-back cover we needed, very good age.

“Early doors because only two training sessions. Jean-Matteo young prospect, very great character, very quick with lots of potential. Very young, so in a different role compared to senior, experienced Melvin. Pleased both are with us.”

I’ll preface this by saying hopefully I’m wrong.

But to be honest, I really didn’t like the way Farke spoke about Bahoya. The fact that he referred to him as a young player with a different role compared to the more senior Bard just sent off alarm signals for me that he doesn’t see him as someone who is ready to play regularly.

By no means am I saying that Bahoya should immediately come in and start every game, especially that Brighton game, but unless we are shoring things up by subbing on Brenden Aaronson, Bahoya needs to be the player we sub on for Noah Okafor, particularly if we still need another goal.

I just can’t bear to picture Bahoya getting the same treatment that Willy Gnonto or Largie Ramazani got under Farke, especially with the Frenchman potentially costing us so much.

Only time will tell how Farke plans to use Bahoya this season, but hopefully it isn’t too sparingly.
